In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Ryan Plastics and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union review a pay claim under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress and begin negotiations by 1 May. The recommendation was signed on 22 March 1993. The union had sought talks on a pay increase, while Ryan Plastics cited recession-hit sales and short-time working. The company had committed to address the issue before the agreement expired, the Court noted.
