Labour Court rejects union claim to restore service pay at Quinnsworth

By Aoife Loughran

Labour Court ·

In 1993, the Labour Court rejected the Irish Distributive and Administrative Trade Union’s claim to restore service pay for workers at Quinnsworth’s Midleton store. The recommendation was signed on 14 July 1993 and said the issue could be considered in future negotiations. The union argued workers had received service pay in 1988 and that similar workers in nearby towns had it under their agreements. Quinnsworth said the 1988 payments resulted from an administrative error, its agreement made no provision for service pay, and the claim conflicted with pay commitments and trading conditions.
