Labour Court says early bank opening remains in agreement

By Saoirse Doyle

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that the Banks’ Staff Relations Committee and the Irish Bank Officials’ Association accept that early opening before 10am remained part of their agreement. It also recommended discussions on how staff acceptance would be verified. The recommendation was signed on 10 February 1994. The Association said the provision for early opening had been dropped in settlement of the 1992 dispute. The banks denied that an amendment had been agreed. The Court found no documentary proof of an amendment and relied on its earlier recommendation and clarification, which allowed earlier opening at a branch where the arrangement was acceptable to staff.
