In 1994, the Labour Court recommended that Transcontinental Limited increase its drivers' meal allowance to £85 from 1 March and that the company and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union clarify the conditions for paying or withholding a monthly bonus. The recommendation was signed on 9 March 1994. The union sought a wider package of improved driver conditions, including higher overnight allowances, hazardous-load pay and medical insurance. The Court did not recommend major changes or concession of the union's claim, citing the company's financial position and the development of rates and allowances.
