In 1994, the Labour Court recommended that Cavan Irish Crystal Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union meet at the end of June to review a claim for pay increases, including a 3% rise under the P.E.S.P. The recommendation was signed on 24 March 1994. The dispute concerned 63 workers. The union said they had shown flexibility and cooperation; the company argued it could not meet the claim without jeopardising its prospects in a depressed and competitive market. The Court found that granting the claim would be unrealistic at that stage and said it should be considered in light of the company's trading position.
