The Labour Court recommended implementing Irish Rail's proposal to use surplus workshop supervisors as temporary summer relief staff in booking offices. The recommendation was signed on 8 June 1994. The Transport Salaried Staffs' Association argued the plan would undermine clerical roles and leave booking-office staff supervising higher-paid supervisors. The Court noted Irish Rail's commitments that clerical staff earnings would not be adversely affected and that supervisors would return to their own duties in September.
