In 1994, the Labour Court said Waterford Crystal Limited could include its Dungarvan van service among activities considered for contracting out. The recommendation was signed on 28 July 1994 and concerned the company’s dispute with the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union. The company relied on a 1993 agreement allowing non-core services to be contracted out. The union argued that Waterford Crystal had not disclosed its intention during negotiations and that workers had not had a fair opportunity to apply for the contract. The Court said the matter should have been discussed more fully with the union, but found no grounds to reverse the arrangement because the contract had already been concluded and transport services were generally dispersed.
