In 1994, the Labour Court recommended against a 20% pay increase claim by eight clerical and administrative workers at Clonmel Healthcare Limited. The workers, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, said their pay lagged comparable roles and their responsibilities had grown. Clonmel Healthcare Limited argued that the claim would increase costs under the Programme for Competitiveness and Work. The Court accepted the company’s cost-increase argument and did not recommend conceding the claim. The recommendation was signed on 22 August 1994.
