In 1995, the Labour Court recommended compensation for 63 Waterford Crystal workers after a dispute over the company’s bonus schemes with the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union. The recommendation was signed on 11 May 1995. The union said the company had not implemented an agreed bonus system and sought the difference between the old and new schemes, backdated to July 1992. Waterford Crystal said the agreement did not guarantee higher incentive payments within six months and that the workers had received a £12 weekly increase from February 1991. The Court recommended that each affected worker receive the difference between average bonuses under the current direct scheme and the old scheme, backdated six months from the new scheme’s introduction.
