Labour Court did not recommend cleaners’ compensation claim

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

Labour Court ·

In 1995, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union (IMPACT) and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU) claim against Dublin Corporation for compensation for cleaners’ extra work during construction of the new Civic Offices. The recommendation was signed on 30 August 1995. The unions sought compensation for work they said cleaners carried out in adverse conditions. Dublin Corporation argued the claim should have been handled under the health and safety procedure. The Court said health and safety issues were not before it, and that any extra work could not be measured after the building work had ended.
