In 1995, the Labour Court found that a shop assistant had been unfairly dismissed by Wellcare Cleaners and recommended that the company give her a satisfactory reference and compensation equal to four weeks’ pay. The recommendation was signed on 25 September 1995. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said she had received no complaints about her work, had cooperated with management and had sometimes worked extra hours. It disputed the company’s claim that she was unavailable for full-time work. Wellcare Cleaners did not attend the hearing or submit a written statement, and the Court considered evidence from the union and the worker before reaching its finding.
