By Cathal Brosnan

Labour Court ·

In 1995, the Labour Court recommended that three workers suspended for a week by Farrell Brothers (Ardee) Ltd be paid for the suspension period and receive a verbal warning lasting three months. The recommendation was signed on 11 October 1995. A power failure stopped the dust extraction system on a sanding machine, creating unpleasant conditions. Two workers refused to return to the area before the fault was repaired, and a third followed. The Building and Allied Trades Union represented the workers. The company said it had a tight schedule for a UK order; the Court said agreed procedures should have been applied on the Monday morning.
