Labour Court recommends 20% shift premium and £500 payment at NUTEC plant

By Aoife Loughran

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that workers at Nutec Limited’s Tallaght plant accept rotating shifts with a 20% premium and receive a one-off £500 payment. The recommendation was signed on 1 December 1995. The Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union said the shift arrangements could reduce overtime earnings and sought a 25% allowance and compensation for any shortfall. Nutec Limited said shifts were needed to meet customer demand and protect the plant’s future. The Court also recommended calculating any loss of earnings after the first year of shift operation, with compensation equal to two years’ loss paid as a lump sum.
