The Labour Court recommended that employees accept Power Supermarkets’ proposals for Sunday and public holiday trading, including safeguards. The recommendation was signed on 8 December 1995. Power Supermarkets employed more than 7,000 workers at 75 locations.
Power Supermarkets Limited, which traded as Quinnsworth, Crazy Prices and Lifestyle, proposed voluntary Sunday work for established staff at double time, with different terms for staff whose rosters included Sundays. Mandate opposed the two-tier arrangements and sought voluntary attendance and double time for all workers. The Court stressed that its recommendation should not set a general standard as Sunday trading arrangements developed.
