The Labour Court recommended that Van Den Bergh Foods and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept an Industrial Relations Officer’s proposal in a dispute over hand held terminals and pagers for van salespersons. The recommendation was signed on 26 June 1996. The union sought a once-off payment of £2,000 per worker and an increase in the meal allowance for about 129 workers. The company said £600 was adequate compensation for introducing the technology.
