In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that workers at Cavan Mac Lellan Limited accept the company's offer of £50 each to settle a dispute over lunch breaks. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought retrospective payment for 10 minutes a day from October 1993, saying 12 workers were entitled to £581 each. The company said the 20-minute break had lasted only two weeks in February 1996 before the 30-minute break was restored. The Court cited conflicting evidence about the discussions and the length of breaks worked. Its recommendation was dated 11 February 1997.
