Labour Court recommends suitable reference and two weeks’ pay for former nurse’s aide

By Fionn Kelly

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Sisters of Charity give a former nurse’s aide a suitable reference and two weeks’ pay, after finding that the reference she received did not reflect her satisfactory work. Its recommendation was signed on 26 May 1997. The worker was dismissed after refusing weekend shifts. She said her return from leave had been agreed on the basis that she would work weekdays only; Sisters of Charity said the arrangement was temporary and weekend work was normal for her role. The Court found she was liable to work weekends and that management’s decision to dismiss her was not unreasonable. It also recommended sympathetic consideration for a future vacancy if she accepted weekend work.
