On 8 July 1997, the Labour Court recommended an ex-gratia payment of £1,000 to an organiser in University College Cork's Adult Education Department for accumulated overtime, subject to clearing assignments in advance with a designated supervisor. The worker said he had accrued 1,327 overtime hours since 1990 and sought a financial settlement. The College said approved time off in lieu was available when overtime was planned in advance. The Court said the College must ensure no further overtime accumulated.
