In 1997, the Labour Court found that a shop assistant had been unfairly dismissed by Mr John Hetherton and recommended £800 compensation and a suitable reference. The recommendation was dated 16 September 1997. The worker said Mr Hetherton ended her employment because she had bought her car elsewhere. He denied this and said her work in the shop was inadequate. The Court found no grounds to justify the dismissal and said the way she was treated was unacceptable.
