In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that six BWG Foods Ltd clerical employees accept proposals from the Labour Relations Commission on their pay structure, including clarification of the Office Supervisor’s post. Mandate sought higher basic rates, citing new technology, responsibility posts and increased workload after the Galway operation closed. BWG Foods said it had made an improved offer and needed to control labour costs. The Court also recommended monitoring and reviewing the employees’ concerns about further work being transferred to them in six months. The recommendation was dated 1 May 1998.
