In 1999, the Labour Court recommended that Johnson Brothers Limited increase its final shift-premium offer by 3% in a dispute with Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The Court also recommended renewed conciliation talks on a once-off payment for workers whose contracts would change, and efforts to accommodate up to 10 employees on day work. Johnson Brothers Limited said the shift system was needed to meet demand and remain competitive. The recommendation was dated 22 March 1999.
