In 1999, the Labour Court recommended that Sunday Newspapers Limited and Dublin Print Group of Unions hold meaningful discussions on revising an agreement clause governing overtime payments when night-shift printers handled additional titles. The recommendation was signed on 14 September. The union wanted the existing overtime payments to continue, while the company said the clause made it less competitive when seeking extra print work. The Court considered the clause potentially harmful to the company and its employees. If the parties had not reached agreement by 26 October 1999, it recommended that they return for a definitive recommendation.
