In 1999, the Labour Court found that the agreed £625 rate for carpenters at John Paul Construction’s Mayor Street site covered a 41-hour week. The recommendation was dated 19 October 1999. The Building And Allied Trades Union argued that its standard agreement was based on a 39-hour week. The Court said any proposed change to the agreement was for the parties to agree.
