Labour Court recommends four months’ pay and reference for McGann PLM driver dismissed after safety dispute

By Donal Gilhooly

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court found a worker was unfairly dismissed by McGann PLM after refusing to drive a lorry he considered unsafe. It recommended compensation equivalent to four months’ salary and a suitable reference. The recommendation was signed on 17 November 1999.

The worker said he had previously reported problems with the lorry, which had twice rolled backwards in traffic. The Court found he was denied an opportunity to present his case and that no specific charges had been made against him.
