In 2000, the Labour Court recommended that Guide Friday (Ireland) Limited use seniority for continuity of work and raise Sunday and public holiday premiums for nine workers. The recommendation was dated 6 March 2000. The dispute followed negotiations over seasonal lay-offs, re-hiring and premium rates. The company had offered time plus one third for Sunday and public holiday work, while the National Bus And Rail Union sought double time. The Court recommended time plus one half in peak periods and time plus one quarter in non-peak periods. It also recommended seniority for continuity of work, with the arrangement open to review if difficulties arose.
