Labour Court recommends Manley Construction honour bricklayer recall agreement

By Donal Gilhooly

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Manley Construction Limited implement an agreement with the Building and Allied Trades Union on recalling bricklayers for work. The recommendation was signed on 15 May 2000. The union said the company had hired bricklayers who were not on the recall list, although listed members were available and had not been contacted. The company said there had been no work earlier and that, when work became available, it had failed to contact the listed workers. The Court found that the offer in a letter dated 19 November 1998 formed part of the settlement and recommended that the company implement the agreement described in it, including its criteria for recalling workers.
