The Labour Court recommended that discussions be expedited on access to clerical promotion opportunities at Iarnrod Eireann. Its recommendation was signed on 30 May 2000. The dispute concerned a locomotive driver based at Connolly Station who said he was barred from applying for a Senior Clerical Officer post involving traffic-regulator duties and received no response to a later application. The National Bus and Rail Union said rail-operating staff faced continuing restrictions. Iarnrod Eireann said clerical promotion posts had traditionally been reserved for clerical staff.
