The Labour Court recommended phased pay and conditions changes for nursing staff at Milford Care Centre, including incremental credit, allowances and annual leave on Health Board terms. The recommendation was signed on 23 November 2000. The Irish Nurses’ Organisation sought parity with public-sector nursing staff, citing comparable qualifications and service. Milford Care Centre said it could not afford full parity and operated as a charity. It had accepted the principle that permanent job-sharers should receive incremental credit for each year of service. The Court recommended that both sides accept proposals from July 2000 with adjustments. Permanent staff would receive three extra increments in 2000, two in 2001 and one in 2002; job-sharers would receive incremental credit from the recommendation date, while temporary nurses would move to point three of the staff nurse scale from 1 January 2000. The recommendations also covered Home Care allowances, annual leave, a review of unsocial-hours premiums in July 2002 and further talks on senior staff nurse positions.
