In 2002, the Labour Court recommended changes to sick pay, rostering and approval payments for varitime workers at Shannon Aerospace Limited, while declining their claimed 5% pay rise. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought restored parity with flexitime workers and a 5% increase; the company said aviation-market pressures meant it could not afford the rise. The Court recommended extending the improved sick-pay scheme if the overall recommendation was accepted, clearer rostering and discussions on leave and career progression. It also recommended acceptance of the company's €1,500 annual full-approval allowance offer, but did not concede the separate claim for other approval payments. The recommendation was dated 26 July 2002.
