Labour Court calls for new job evaluation scheme at Thermo King

By Saoirse Doyle

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Thermo King Europe put an acceptable job evaluation scheme in place within 12 months, then review the storesperson job. The recommendation was signed on 29 October 2002. The Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union sought to upgrade about 16 store persons from Grade 6 to Grade 8. The union said their work practices and responsibilities had changed without recognition, while the company said the changes reflected new technology and the claim would increase costs. The Court found that the existing evaluation scheme did not meet current requirements. It recommended that the company take immediate steps to introduce an acceptable scheme, with a review of the job once it was in place.
