The Labour Court recommended on 4 November 2002 that South Eastern Health Board concede the union’s claim for higher rates for workers in a jobs initiative scheme, with rates adjusted from 1 January 2002. It accepted care-worker and clerical rates as appropriate for the relevant jobs. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought the rates for care workers, a supervisor and a clerical worker. The Board said it lacked resources to top up the participants’ pay beyond the grant arrangements; the Court noted that scheme guidelines called for a rate for the job and consideration of comparable work.
