In 2004, the Labour Court recommended that Iralco offer a worker redundancy on terms set out in an earlier recommendation. The recommendation was signed on 2 December 2004. The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union sought removal of a final written warning and compensation for about €80 a week in claimed lost earnings after the worker moved from polishing technician to general operative. Iralco said the technician role was redundant and the worker had accepted redeployment at the applicable rate. The union withdrew its claim about the warning at the hearing. The Court recommended that Iralco offer redundancy on the earlier terms: four weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory terms.
