The Labour Court recommended an appeals procedure for unsuccessful applicants in University College Dublin’s 2003 Associate Professor promotion competition. The recommendation was signed on 12 May 2005. The Irish Federation of University Teachers said applicants had understood that an appeal mechanism would be available, as recommended in the Dowling report. UCD said the 2003 competition used a quota and that an appeals system had never been available, while indicating it would consider one for future competitions. The Court recommended that the procedure set out in R11.7 be provided for the claimants in the 2003 competition.
