The Labour Court recommended a revised pay package for Dawn Meats workers at its Grannagh plant in Waterford. The recommendation was signed on 21 February 2006. The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union sought changes to daily pay, headage payments, service pay and a summer bonus. Dawn Meats said the claims would increase costs and conflicted with the Sustaining Progress agreement. Its March 2005 proposal included productivity measures, which the union had rejected. The Court recommended that the union’s members accept the company’s productivity measures, with a base rate of €95 per day for a kill of 300 cattle and an additional €0.10 per head thereafter. It also recommended extending to the claimants the Boning Hall service bonus, ranging from €2.54 to €12.70 per week. The Court said both sides should accept the package as a final resolution.
