Labour Court backs HSE offer of High Support Allowance to Crannog Nua staff

By Donal Gilhooly

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that the HSE’s offer of a red-circled High Support Allowance to eligible staff at Crannog Nua High Support Unit be accepted and paid retrospectively from their employment start dates. The recommendation was signed on 11 April 2006. The Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union had sought the allowance for campus assistants, domestics, clerical administration staff and chefs, citing an advertisement and the nature of the work. The Court did not recommend conceding the broader claim, saying the allowance was linked to Department of Education pay scales, but said the union’s claim should be considered at the parallel benchmarking forum.
