Labour Court recommends higher pay for Powerohm electrician

By Eimear Byrne

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Powerohm Limited increase a worker’s pay to the rate paid to other electricians doing similar work, backdated to the start of his employment. The recommendation was dated 31 July 2006. The Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union said the worker was underpaid. Powerohm said he had not verified his qualifications and that his pay reflected his work and skill level. The Court found his work was similar to that of the other electricians and accepted the union’s pay claim. It did not accept the separate allegation that the company treated him unfairly as a non-national worker.
