The Labour Court recommended a new pay scale and improved conditions for workers at Bayfield Supplies Ltd following a claim by Mandate Trade Union. The recommendation, signed on 10 August 2006, covered pay, public-holiday premiums, sick pay, a Christmas bonus, payslips and workplace safety. The Court recommended an incremental hourly pay scale, a time-and-a-half premium for public-holiday work in addition to statutory entitlements, four weeks’ sick leave at full pay less social welfare, and a Christmas bonus equal to one week’s gross pay. It also recommended payslips in the form required by law and compliance with safety requirements. The Court said the redundancy-payments issue did not arise at that time and did not address the union’s claim for enhanced payments.
