The Labour Court recommended that P.J. Carroll & Co. Limited concede a worker’s claim and pay an enhanced redundancy lump sum of €6,350. The recommendation was signed on 8 September 2006. The worker was made compulsorily redundant in 1998 after 25 years with the company. He said the managing director had assured him that any improved redundancy package would apply to him. The company argued that he had accepted his redundancy terms and was not eligible for the earlier recommendation’s package. The Court found that the worker was covered by the 1998 recommendation and that assurances had been given. It recommended conceding his claim and paying the enhanced lump sum.
