Labour Court declines to investigate baggage security workers’ dispute

By Gráinne Nolan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court declined to investigate a dispute brought by the Independent Workers Union on behalf of eight airport baggage security workers employed by Specialist Airport Services, trading as Fernley Airport Services. Its recommendation was dated 26 February 2007. The union said the company had failed to follow grievance procedures and sought to represent the workers. The company said it had an agreement with SIPTU granting it sole negotiating rights for the category. The Court found the company engaged in collective bargaining for the workers through a recognised union, so a condition for the Court to investigate the dispute was not met. It therefore did not consider the substance of the dispute.
