In 2007, the Labour Court found a genuine redundancy situation at Townlink Construction and did not recommend conceding the Building and Allied Trades Union’s claim. The recommendation was dated 4 December 2007. The union alleged workers were displaced by subcontractors and sought re-employment, lay-off pay, updated rates and compliance with existing agreements. Townlink said continuous work was unavailable and subcontracting was permitted under the registered employment agreement.
