In 2008, the Labour Court recommended an independent evaluation of the cafeteria manager and assistant manager jobs at DIT. The recommendation was signed on 21 May 2008 after the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union sought upgraded grades and pay. The union argued that expanded services and higher meal volumes had increased the managers’ responsibilities. DIT said the changes had not materially altered the roles and that the existing pay scales reflected an earlier agreement. The Court recommended that the parties agree the evaluation’s terms and evaluator within a month, complete it within a further three months and discuss the results if needed.
