Labour Court declines compensation after trial placement dispute

By Cathal Brosnan

Labour Court ·

In 2008, the Labour Court declined to recommend compensation for a worker who disputed whether The Grafton Suite Limited had hired him or offered only a trial. The recommendation was signed on 21 July. The worker said he had not received a written contract or payslip and had been dismissed without procedures or written notice. The company said he had been told the interview included a trial to assess his suitability and that he had never been employed. The Court accepted the trial was to assess suitability and did not recommend concessions on his claims for compensation.
