In 2008, the Labour Court recommended that the Irish Dental Association accept the HSE’s offer to pay €283.50 for after-hours dental treatment sessions in areas with a particular shortage of public dental surgeons. The recommendation was signed on 25 July 2008. The association sought €378, arguing that the HSE had not reviewed the rate as agreed. The HSE said public dental surgeons using its premises and equipment were paid more for the work than private practitioners using their own premises. The Court said the offer made at conciliation was a reasonable way forward. The earlier session rate was €189.
