The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union’s claim for increased annual leave for Brothers of Charity Services, Galway care assistants. The recommendation was signed 14 November 2008. The union sought the leave entitlement given to HSE childcare workers, pointing to a longstanding pay link between the roles. The employer argued the increase was prohibited under Towards 2016, could threaten frontline services and might prompt claims across the health sector. The Court said the claim was debarred as cost-increasing under the agreement and could not be recommended at that time.
