Labour Court rejects worker’s unfair dismissal claim against Miele Ireland

By Aoife Loughran

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court found that a worker’s dismissal by Miele Ireland Limited was not unfair, and his claim failed. The recommendation was signed on 26 January 2009. The worker was dismissed during his probationary period after a dispute over the company’s appearance standards, including a visible tattoo and clothing. He said he received only one long-sleeved shirt, had not received the employee handbook and was not warned before his dismissal. Miele Ireland Limited said it had warned him three times. The Court accepted that he had been warned on three occasions and found that his dismissal was due to his failure to comply with the company’s standards.
