The Labour Court recommended on 16 February 2009 that Unite fully co-operate with the Institutes of Technology’s electronic time and attendance system for technical grades. The system required staff to clock in and out four times a day, including for lunch. The employer said the system was required under the Towards 2016 agreement and working-time law. Unite argued that clocking at the start and end of the day was sufficient and that clocking for lunch was unreasonable. The Court considered management entitled under the agreement to introduce the system and recommended that Unite co-operate with its implementation as soon as possible.
