The Labour Court recommended that the HSE (Dublin Mid-Leinster) not concede the Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union’s claim for an allowance when dental nurses covered for absent senior nurses. The union argued that covering a senior nurse’s duties warranted extra pay. Management said chairside cover was part of dental nurses’ normal duties and that an acting allowance applied for absences of a month or longer. The Court considered the cover fell within nurses’ job descriptions and said management’s position was reasonable. The recommendation was signed on 10 June 2009.
