Labour Court recommends redundancy terms and Saturday overtime rates at Morris Builders Providers

By Gráinne Nolan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Morris Builders Providers) pay workers selected for redundancy 4.5 weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory entitlements. Its recommendation was dated 14 July 2009. The dispute with Unite concerned redundancy terms, selection criteria and Saturday premiums. The union sought six weeks’ pay per year of service and last-in, first-out selection. The company said redundancies were needed to protect its viability and that it could not sustain the Saturday premium. The Court recommended seeking volunteers first and, if there were too few, selecting workers by last-in, first-out within the company’s categories. Staff required to work overtime should receive the agreed rates unless other arrangements were agreed.
