Labour Court recommends four weeks’ redundancy pay per year of service at Dune Shoes

By Ruairí Dolan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended a severance payment of four weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory redundancy, for about 15 workers affected by job losses at Dune Shoes Ireland Limited. The recommendation was signed on 5 March 2010. The dispute followed the end of a concession agreement with a major British department store, which led to several hundred redundancies across Britain and Ireland. Mandate sought a fairer package for the workers. Dune Shoes Ireland Limited said the economic downturn left it unable to pay above statutory requirements. The Court said the recommended settlement took account of the company’s financial condition and the unusual circumstances of the case.
