Labour Court recommends severance package for Finglas centre staff

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended a severance package for staff affected by the closure of Finglas Child & Adolescent Centre and the transfer of its operations to Oberstown. In its recommendation dated 29 March 2010, the Court said staff with at least two years’ service should be offered five weeks’ pay per year of service, including statutory entitlements, capped at two years’ salary or earnings to normal retirement, whichever was lower. Staff with less than two years’ service should be offered pro-rata severance excluding statutory entitlements. The Court also recommended that eligible staff aged 50 to 60 be offered early retirement terms, while staff aged 60 or over could use their existing superannuation entitlements. It recommended a €2,000 payment per person for staff relocating, payable after they cooperated with the transition. The Court cited the new campus’s lack of public transport access. The dispute was between Finglas Child & Adolescent Centre, represented by Irish Youth Justice Services, and SIPTU and IMPACT.
